Spider-Man 2 PC Reviews

It was supposed to be an easy win. One day before the PC launch of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Sony delighted players by announcing that its latest port would not require a PlayStation Network account. Doing so would unlock a pair of suits for Spidey a little earlier, but that’s no big deal.

Another huge point of anticipation came from the PC specs. Some players could not believe it when Nixxes published the traditional hardware requirements post. With ray tracing off, you’d need an RTX 3060 or RX 5700 to get a comfortable 60 FPS on 1080p.

An incredible PS5 controller detail has been found featuring Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Unfortunately, achieving good performance on budget hardware turned out to be a bridge too far, at least on launch. The biggest issue plaguing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PC is graphics-related crashes.

What’s Wrong With Spider-Man 2 On PC?

Whether you are skimming the minimum requirements or rocking a pocket nuclear reactor like the RTX 4090Ti, Spider-Man 2 has a nasty habit of crashing to desktop.

According to the incredibly named Steam user Xtreme Hot Diarrhea, the error message is familiar: “A problem has occurred with your display driver.”

When the game does work, many players run into long loading times, texture errors, and big-ticket features like ray tracing and DLSS not being properly functional.

User KyoKat, running the game on an RTX 4060Ti, suggests memory leaks may be at fault as the game maxes out VRAM usage on the Very High preset without ray-tracing. They recommend sticking to the High preset for now and changing settings before opening the game as a way to possibly prevent crashes.

For handheld players, Spider-Man 2 is not Steam Deck Verified, but user Adravil says the game can run at a “mostly stable 800p30” when using upscalers, provided you are on the lowest graphics settings.

The response from Nixxes has been limited so far. The studio points to its standard troubleshooting guides and requests users to contact them with logs and crash dumps if the problems persist, which is exactly the case for many players.

The problems do not seem to be universal, with plenty of Steam users mentioning playing and even completing the game, so the hope is that others can partake in the fun as well once a stability patch is deployed.
