After you defeat Moss Mother and ascend to new areas of the map, Silksong really starts to open up, and allows you to explore new areas like The Marrow, Mosshome, and more. However, getting around purely on foot can be a bit of a pain. After all, in the original game, you had Stag Beetles to rely on.
Well, in Silksong, you’ll have a similar beast to call upon, called a Bell Beast. But, to make use of this fast travel beast, you’ll need to free it from a web of silk. Which can only be done by acquiring your first power-up.
Then, naturally, when you free them, they’ll want a fight. Guess they wake up grumpy, but to be fair, so do I. So, if you need a hand finding the necessary power-up, or need a hand taking on this beast, then this guide is for you.
Where Is the Bell Beast in Hollow Knight: Silksong?
The Bell Beast is a boss that is located in The Marrow. To access this area, you will need to navigate this area and use your nail to chop down platforms that will allow you to access the top-right area of this portion of the map.
Save your Rosaries for when you access the area connecting Mosshome and The Marrow, as you’ll encounter a merchant named Shakra who will sell you maps of the immediate area.
Upon heading to the top right of The Marrow, you’ll see a sign with a bell on it pointing to the right. If you follow this you’ll find the Bell Beast tangled in a web of silk. You can try to free them, but the silk will form quicker than you can chop it, so you’ll need to head to Mosshome to find a power-up.
How To Free The Bell Beast
As mentioned, you’ll need to head to Mosshome in search of a skill that can cut through silk webs like a hot knife through butter.
From where you located Shakra, you’ll want to head left and follow the upper path that takes you into Mosshome. Then, you’ll want to deal with all the enemies in this immediate area. You’ll have a mix of flying enemies, chargers, and ones that spit projectiles, so be on your guard.
After that, cross the higher platforms and get to the lever nearby, then head up and to the right. You then need to get to the top of this screen and you’ll find something worth inspecting, because if you do, you’ll gain the Silkspear power-up.
Then you can clear the various pathways around Mosshome by using the R1/RB button to cast this ability. Then all that is left to do is head back to where you found the Bell Beast and take care of business.
How To Beat The Bell Beast
Unlike the rather tame Moss Mother fight, the Bell Beast actually offers a little bit of challenge, feeling like a boss fight somewhat reminiscent of the Dung Defender fight mixed with the Moss Charger.
The first stage of this fight is pretty routine. You have two attacks to contend with. The charge attack, and the jumping attack. For the charge attack, you want to leap into the air to avoid their advance, and then you want to line up a diagonal nail attack when in the air to get a shot in.
As for the jumping attack, just stay on the ground and follow their flight path so that you’re right under their nail when they land. If you time this just right, you can get up to three shots at the boss here.
This will continue until you push them into their next phase. At this point, the whole ground will shake, and they will drop a series of bells from the sky. These are hard-hitting projectiles that will hit you for two masks. So watch their flight path and be aware that they will bounce once and move slightly left or right.
Ride out this portion, and then you can begin exercising the same strategy as before, but with the added caveat that you will need to watch the ceiling, as there will occasionally be a bell that drops from the sky, which will make the battlefield a little more congested.
My tip here would be to not get greedy, and if there are bells in play, just focus on playing defense rather than looking for a hit on the Bell Beast, as aside from the bell projectiles, the boss doesn’t offer much else in the way of a real threat.
Just keep calm while the bells bounce around you, and you’ll take this boss down, no sweat.
If you’re struggling with the Bell Beast, the best Bench to get back to them in double quick time is the one closest to the Druid NPC in Mosshome.
Rewards For Defeating The Bell Beast
Upon defeating the Bell Beast, you’ll be able to collect a glowing bobble above your head, and this will take you through a dreamlike sequence, where you’ll need to platform for a minute, using levers and cranks to rise.
Do this, and when you come out of the Silk Heart, a power that allows you to regenerate silk within your shell.
And with that, you also unlock the ability to fast travel with the help of the Bell Beast, but there’s no point in traveling back to Bone Bottom right now ,as you’ll need to unlock a second station to travel between.
