How To Access The Dark Brotherhood

“Stop right there criminal scum!” You weren’t thinking about killing an innocent civilian, were you? Well, if so, then you’ve come to the right place.

The Dark Brotherhood in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is an infamous band of Assassins, and if you want a chance of joining their ranks, you’re going to need to get your hands a little dirty.

This guide explains how to Cure Vampirism in Oblivion Remastered.

Best throw your moral compass away for this one, as by the end of the questline, you’ll be a true killer,

swimming in the riches
of your fallen prey.

But, how do you contact the Brotherhood itself? Death, of course. And once you’ve crossed this line, there’s no going back.

First Blood

Oblivion Remastered Skooma Den

You need to kill an innocent person in order to get the attention of the Brotherhood, or rather, Lucian Lechance, a speaker for the Black Hand.

The question is, who to kill? This isn’t an obvious query, as targeting just anyone you see on the street is going to get you a large bounty or, more likely, killed. And of course, aggressive NPCs you encounter in ruins don’t count.

For those wanting to avoid going to jail or emptying their wallets, it’s best to head to Bravil and look for the Skooma Den, which is located on top of Carandial’s house. All you need to do is pick the lock and break into the dreary den to find your first target.

Oblivion Remastered: How To Lockpick

Are those tricky locks in Oblivion Remastered getting you down? This guide will make it all seem so simple.

Look for the woman called Roxanne Brigette, and take her out in any way you see fit. Preferably quickly. While you can choose to kill any of the dodgy characters in the den, she’s the only one who will actually report a crime, so it’s best to get her out of the way. I reckon the others are too deep in the Skooma to even bat an eye.

You’ll know that you’ve done this right if you see “Your killing has been observed by forces unknown” pop up on screen.

Don’t be like me and kill them all. These guys are great for training your sneak by pickpocketing them while they’re asleep.

A Knife in the Dark

Oblivion Remastered Rufio

Once you fall asleep, you’ll be woken by Lucian, who has a job for you, before you can

officially join the Brotherhood
.

You must kill Rufio, an old guy living in the Inn of Ill Omen just northwest of Bravil. But don’t feel too bad, he’s not exactly an innocent man; he’s also got blood on his hands, just like you!

You’ll find him sleeping downstairs by heading through the trapdoor in the corner of the Inn.

Oblivion Remastered: 9 Best Star Signs To Choose

Your unwitting prisoner on Oblivion Remastered might have been born under a lucky star.

Now you can either take him out silently or choose to speak to him and hear his story. I wouldn’t recommend the latter. Simply kill him with a sneak attack and get it out of the way.

You’ll want to get used to killing quickly and silently, avoiding other NPCs where you can. A great strategy you can use is to use a Frenzy/Rage Illusion spell to cause an NPC to attack you instead of you initiating on them.

By doing this, the killing will be seen as an act of self-defense and thus, you won’t gain any bounty on your head by taking them out. This is perfect for use in big, crowded cities, with lots of onlookers.

While you may want to leave the Dark Brotherhood questline for later on, you can get some great rewards like Shadowmere and the Black Robes early on in your adventure.

In any case, go to sleep again, and Lucian will come, inviting you to Chaydinhal, where you’ll find the headquarters for the Dark Brotherhood.

Congratulations, your dark journey into depravity is just beginning.
