Elden Ring Nightreign: Shifting Earth: The Mountaintop Guide

One of the most unique features in Elden Ring Nightreign is the Shifting Earth events, where a large chunk of the map changes. There are four Shifting Earth events: Crater, Mountaintop, Rotted Woods, and Noklateo, the Shrouded City.

In this guide, we’ll be discussing the Mountaintop. Players encounter this one fairly early in their playthrough of Elden Ring Nightreign, and fortunately, it’s one of the easiest to complete.

Players unlock the Mountaintop Shifting Earth Event after beating three Nightlords in Elden Ring Nightreign. Once you take down a third Nightlord, a notification appears on the screen mentioning the new Shifting Earth event.

After unlocking the Mountaintop, it will enter the pool of RNG for future expeditions. This means that at this point in the game, you can now obtain either the Mountaintop or the Crater during your expeditions.

Remember, you can rest in the bed in the Roundtable Hold to get rid of the Shifting Earth events if you don’t want one appearing in your expedition.

How to Complete the Mountaintop

Completing the Mountaintop in Elden Ring Nightreign

To complete the Mountaintop in Elden Ring Nightreign, players need to reach the top of the Mountain and discover its secret. Luckily, this is much easier than reaching the bottom of the Crater since there is no way to fall to your death.

Reaching the top of the mountain and finding the secret is pretty straightforward. The secret is marked by a red waypoint on your map, which is at the highest point of the mountain.

However, it’s not a linear path to the top of the mountain. Players need to look for the giant chain that will lead them to the correct area.

The giant chain connects the right and left sides of the mountain, where the left side has the secret to complete the Mountaintop.

Check out the image below for reference. The red waypoint in the image shows where you need to end up, and the red arrow shows the location of the chain that leads to this location.

Once you cross the chain indicated by the red arrow, continue going north until you reach another chain. This second chain leads you to the secret of the Mountaintop.

The chains are fairly easy to find considering their enormous size. However, if you’re having trouble locating them, just know that you need to use Spirit Springs and climbable stone walls to reach higher ground. Remember, the chains lead to the very top of the mountain, so they’re really high up.

At the top of the mountain you’ll encounter a rock structure with blue crystals shining in its center. Underneath the blue crystals is a smaller crystal with a gold hue to it. Interact with this crystal to gain a Power and complete the Mountaintop.

Mountaintop Rewards

After completing the Mountaintop, players will earn the Favor of the Mountaintop Power, which halves frostbite damage and frost buildup. This power also makes it where nearby frostbite boosts attack. Additionally, players will earn the Mountaintop trophy.

The Favor of the Mountaintop is a fantastic power to have for farming the bosses of the Mountaintop, considering a good number of them deal frostbite damage. That’s why it’s recommended to get the power early on in day two, so you have plenty of time to farm the Mountaintop with the power active.

This is also a great power to have when fighting Caligo, Miasma of Night. Expect to deal much more damage, take less damage, and have an easier fight overall.
