Elden Ring’s massive open world is filled with a number of secrets. You might find yourself exploring new areas and coming across a chest capable of sending you to a new location. Or you might just return to a previously visited place at night, only to be attacked by a new boss who wasn’t there before. This uncertainty the game provides at every turn is one of the prime reasons why it is such a blast to play, although fans sometimes have a bit of trouble with the obtuse nature of this brutal Soulsborne title.
While most players are focused on defeating the hardest bosses and gathering the best loot, some may just be admiring the stunning sights of Elden Ring’s fantastical landscapes. Although you may just rest at one of the various Sites of Grace throughout your journey, the last thing you might expect is to rest inside a coffin.
However, it appears that you can do just that — but what exactly happens if you decide to rest in a coffin?
Updated by Callum Marshall on 12th August 2024: We have updated this guide with relevant images and useful links to other Elden Ring guides. We have also provided the locations of additional coffins and where they will transport you to, including information regarding coffins within Elden Ring’s DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree.
Resting In Elden Ring’s Coffins
Many of you playing Elden Ring may have found an eery-looking coffin that gives you the option to rest in it once you get too close. This is something that fans are in a dilemma about, but thankfully, resting in a coffin has no adverse effects on your journey.
Coffins are used to travel to different locations within Elden Ring. Three of these coffins are present in the base game, and an additional coffin to discover within the Shadow Realm in Elden Ring’s DLC campaign.
First Coffin
The first coffin can be found in Nokron, Eternal City, and can be accessed after defeating the
Valiant Gargoyle & Valiant Gargoyle (Twinblade) . Once you take them down, you will find a coffin at the base of the waterfall. Upon resting in this coffin, you will be taken to
Map (Deeproot Depths) , which also has one of the best farming locations in the game.
Second Coffin
The second can be found in Deeproot Depths, notably near the Nameless Eternal City Grace Site at the Great Waterfall Basin following the defeat of the two Gargoyles at the
Siofra Aqueduct . This coffin will take you straight to Ainsel River.
Third Coffin
The third and final coffin can be found at the Lake of Rot , just like the previous one. If you decide to rest in it, you will be transported to Ainsel River.
Shadow of The Erdtree Coffin – Shadow Keep
The newest addition to the Elden Ring coffin line-up is the one added via the DLC, which resides in Shadow Keep. The quickest way to this Coffin is by first defeating the Golden Hippopotmous and then proceeding through this legacy dungeon.
