Helldivers 2 Players Are Angry With ‘Farmers’ Costing Them The War

Helldivers 2 is centred around an epic struggle between the righteous forces of Super Earth and those who would oppose (managed) democracy, the Terminids and Automatons.

The game features community-based objectives that track the progress of the fight against the Terminids and Automatons. You contribute to these objectives by following major orders and completing operations, multi-mission quests that players need to complete to aid the war effort.

I’m tired of seeing the same meta loadouts, but nerfs aren’t the answer.

However, these operations aren’t always the most convenient for a quick, stress-free experience. In particular, a recent major order had players doing defence and evacuation missions, probably the hardest mission at higher difficulties. In a recent patch, Arrowhead tuned the difficulty of defence missions to make them easier.

Farming, The Enemy Of Democracy

Extermination missions have you drop into a small area and kill a specific number of enemies, these are easier and usually take under ten minutes, making them the ideal mission type for players farming experience and requisition points. You don’t contribute to the war effort by completing standalone missions, though.

This is why the Helldivers 2 community is rallying against farmers; If we’re going to win these wars, Super Earth needs every able-bodied soldier to get out there and complete operations. These farmers might think they’re clever racking up experience but their experience will be useless when the Terminids are swarming Super Earth.

A user in the comments raises a valid point, the rewards for major orders are often paltry. If there were additional incentives for completing operations then players might be more inclined to abide by major orders. Also, once you purchase all of the stratagems then requisition points become meaningless as you can’t accrue anything past the 50k cap.

You’d think the protection of (managed) democracy would be enough to motivate people but that’s not reality, unfortunately. Perhaps a unique piece of armour could be offered as a reward for completing a certain number of major order operations. Until then, the scourge of farmers will likely continue to plague the war effort.

Our 9.1 review of Helldivers 2 said it “offers endless opportunity for wild action, hilarious friendly fire deaths, and explosions as far as the eye can see.”
